The historic rural town of Gilgandra Shire is situated along the banks of the Castlereagh River in the beautiful Great Western Plains of regional NSW. The township is approximately 40 minutes north of the region city of Dubbo in the Central West of NSW.
Situated approximately halfway on the inland route from Melbourne to Brisbane, the Gilgandra region is an area known to service surrounding townships, agriculture and passing tourists. The Gilgandra region is surrounded by other villages including Tooraweenah (located at the Southern entrance to the Warrumbungle National Park) and Armatree in the north of the Shire.
